For 22 years, Willy Vlautin was the singer-songwriter and guitarist for Portland-based alt-country band Richmond Fontaine. The experience still informs his writing style and character development in fiction. Vlautin's newest novel, The Night Always Comes, explores gentrification, greed, and opportunism within Portland's housing crisis, lending a needed voice to an issue that impacts us all in one way or another.
