In this week's batch of food news, Besaw’s makes a triumphant return, the Doug Fir Lounge plans a big move, and Mariah and Thomas Pisha-Duffly of Gado Gado and Oma's Hideaway reveal details about their upcoming vintage-inspired watering hole. NEW OPENINGS AND RETURNS

Besaw’s List
The historic restaurant Besaw's reopened its doors for brunch and dinner last month. Owner Cana Flug has teamed up with River Pig Saloon List owner Ramzy Hattar to relaunch the business, which is serving comfort food classics such as cast iron skillet pancakes, Dungeness crab Benedict, chicken and waffle sandwiches, and osso buco short ribs.

Fish-San List
Portland State University students now have access to jewel-like sashimi platters, sushi, nigiri, poke, and chirashi, thanks to this new takeout spot, which soft opened on the college campus on February 25. Sushi rolls range from the "Strawberry Lemonade" (salmon, avocado, cucumber, tuna, lemon, and ponzu) to the "Hamachizilla" (hamachi, scallions, avocado, cucumber, unagi sauce, yuzu kosho, and green onion).

Bar Mame List
Bridgetown Bites reports that former McMenamins manager Matthew Dooney and immigration lawyer Nicole Nelson plan to open this bar in the former Red Velvet Parlour space on SE Hawthorne, a project that's been a longtime dream of theirs.

Crux Portland Pub List
The Bend-based brewery Crux Fermentation Project plans to debut its first-ever satellite location in the former Vagabond Brewing List space in Southeast Portland by early summer.

The Houston Blacklight List
Here's something to look forward to: Mariah and Thomas Pisha-Duffly, the dynamic duo who brought you Gado Gado List and Oma's Hideaway List , will open the Houston Blacklight, a cheeky vintage-inspired bar with "a mashup of Atomic Era fantasy and rough-edged elegance," in the former Night Light Lounge List space this summer. Expect French onion ramen, shrimp cocktail martinis, Jell-O shot bundt cakes, and other inspired weirdness.

La Patroncita List
Lusdivina de Leon and Anthony de Lucia, the team behind the Mexican grocer and deli Tortilleria y Tienda De Leon List , plan to open this feminine, laidback gathering place next door to Bluto's List .

Less and More Coffee List
The trendy downtown coffee stand Less and More, which launched in October 2021 and is known for its stunning beverages with flavors like black sesame and ssuk (mugwort), will open a brick-and-mortar near Pioneer Courthouse Square in April.

The old-school drive-in chain is slated to open a location on North Lombard Street in April.

Doug Fir Lounge plans to move
Portland Mercury arts and culture editor Suzette Smith writes, "It's official. This will be the last summer Portlanders and visiting music lovers can accidentally bonk their faces into the mirrored bathroom walls of the Doug Fir Lounge List ." But worry not, the beloved bar and music venue isn't leaving for good: It's moving into the former Le Bistro Montage space on 301 SE Morrison.

17th Annual Portland Seafood & Wine Festival

Eighth Annual SheBrew Fest
Past Event List Human Rights Campaign Portland and the Oregon Brew Crew presents the eighth installment of this annual festival celebrating local female amateur and professional brewers. Check out beers by "shebrewers" from Great Notion, Heater Allen, Leikam Brewing, Steeplejack, Von Ebert, pFriem, 10 Barrel, and more, and nosh on food from women-owned carts. All proceeds go to the Human Rights Campaign.

Portland Brewery Dining Month Past Event List
Nine Portland breweries will prove that they're not just a one-trick pony by showing off enticing food options in addition to their beer. All participating locations will offer a $35 three-course meal with an appetizer, entree, dessert, a drink (beer, house wine, or non-alcoholic beverage), and a $10 voucher for your next meal.

This retro St. Helens spot offering steamed sandwiches introduced a new special this week: the "Loose Goose," a Midwestern delicacy also known as a "tavern sandwich," "crumble burger," "loose meat sandwich," "Maid-Rite," or "NuWay." The sandwich features beef, garlic, onions, and herbs on a steamed bun with house-made "comeback" burger sauce and melty havarti cheese.

Oyatsupan Bakers List
The Japanese bakery is celebrating Hinamatsuri (a religious Shinto holiday also known as "Girls' Day") with themed cakes, which feature matcha, strawberry, and vanilla sponge layers, whipped cream, fresh strawberries, and petite fondant prince and princess figurines. While pre-orders are sold out, a limited number will be available in-store today and Saturday.
