There's plenty to be excited about in the Portland food world this weekend, as the new Lil' America pod makes its official debut and Kulfi hosts the grand opening of its second location. Plus, two new Dough Zone locations are coming later this year, and a few local favorites have been nominated for James Beard Awards. Read about all of that and more below. This vegan cafe in the Gateway District opened a second location in Concordia on March 20, serving Water Avenue Coffee Company coffee, Tanglewood Beverage's Ginger Spiced Chai, ohQua teas, and other beverages.

Kulfi List
Married couple Kiran Cheema and Gagan Aulakh, who sling the Indian frozen pop kulfi at their shop of the same name, will host the grand opening of their new location in the former space of the ice cream shop What’s The Scoop List tomorrow.

Lil' America List
Lil' America, a highly anticipated food cart pod featuring businesses owned by BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ chefs, is at last ready to celebrate its grand opening Past Event List this weekend (Saturday, April 1), and guests can expect to be spoiled for choice: The pod hosts FryBaby (Korean fried chicken), Hawker Station (Hainanese chicken rice and Cantonese dishes), Los Plebes (tacos), Speed-O Cappuccino (a self-described "queer as fuck" coffee cart), Makulit (Filipino American fast food), Bake on the Run (Guyanese), and The Drip’N Crab (seafood boils). The grand opening festivities include music, food and drink specials, giant bubbles from PDX Bubble Unicorn (12-2 pm), tunes from DJ K Marie (2-5 pm), and a drag show (3 pm).

Yigebe Coffee List
This coffee shop offering drinks made with Ethiopian beans and pastries from La Provence will host its grand opening in the former Sandino Brothers List space on Saturday.

Dough Zone
Let them eat soup dumplings: Washington's rapidly expanding chain Dough Zone, which opened its first Portland location on the South Waterfront last April, is slated to open two more locations in Oregon this year: one in Beaverton and one in Happy Valley.

Xiao Ye List
Co-owners Louis Lin and Jolyn Chen plan to open this restaurant serving "first generation American food" this summer. The restaurant's name is derived from a Taiwanese word meaning "midnight snack," a nod to Chen's memories of sneaking nocturnal bites with her late father.

The beloved pizzeria revealed on Monday that its Civic, Killingsworth, and Hollywood locations are now closed permanently due to economic and labor issues.

James Beard nominees announced
This year's crop of James Beard nominees have been nominated, and four Oregon names made the cut: Vince Nguyen of Berlu List , Thomas Pisha-Duffly of Gado Gado List and Oma's Hideaway List , and Joshua Dorcak of MÄS in Ashland, Oregon are in the running for Best Chef: Northwest and Pacific, while Gregory Gourdet's acclaimed Haitian restaurant Kann List has been nominated for Best New Restaurant.

Limited Edition Beer Tasting: Coolship No.6 with McMenamins Edgefield Brewers Past Event List
Meet McMenamins Edgefield brewers and sample their rare Coolship #6 Wild Ale, a limited edition brew made with estate-grown English and lemon cucumbers and cardinal basil, all plucked from the Edgefield garden. You'll also garner a "rare beer tasting" stamp for your McMenamins Passport.

Portland Brewery Dining Month Past Event List
Nine Portland breweries will prove that they're not just a one-trick pony by showing off enticing food options in addition to their beer. All participating locations will offer a $35 three-course meal with an appetizer, entree, dessert, a drink (beer, house wine, or non-alcoholic beverage), and a $10 voucher for your next meal.

Now that spring has officially sprung, kick off the growing season at this community plant and seed swap event. Gardening pros will offer helpful advice, and plant starts, seeds, and other freebies will be available. Explore the working urban farm, grab lunch prepared by the farm's chefs, and sip on an aromatic herbal blend from the tea bar. BIPOC community members are invited to visit earlier in the day (starting at 11 am) in order to ensure they receive first access to giveaways and resources.

Portland Cider House Birthday Party Past Event List
April is a double-whammy of a celebration for Portland Cider Month: it marks not only a decade since the business was founded, but also the eighth birthday of its Hawthorne Boulevard location. In a nod to the original pricing when they first opened, they'll serve $4 pints of their Kinda Dry and Original Gold flagship brews all weekend. They'll also unveil a special 10th anniversary cider, which pays tribute to the Rose City with rosé barrel-aging and rose hips.

You've probably seen food writer Alison Roman's viral recipes, like #TheCookies and #TheStew, on your Instagram feed. The author of Dining In and Nothing Fancy, known for her unfussy approach to cooking and her strong culinary opinions, is now returning to her pastry chef roots and turning her attention to dessert with her first baking book Sweet Enough. She'll discuss the new release at Powell's Books at Cedar Hills Crossing.
