If you’re anything like me, you may put art at the bottom of a list of things you’re talented at. Most kids can (and do) draw better than I can, but art builds are still one of my favorite movement activities.
I spend so much of my time in meetings, on calls, and writing that getting to slow down and fill in the outlines of a beautiful banner outside in the sun, or inside masked when it rains, while chatting with awesome people is a breath of fresh air.
During last summer’s Healthy Through Heat & Smoke campaign, where we won $100 million dollars for upgrading Seattle community centers for clean energy and cooling, art builds were the heart of our campaign. So many people got to come together, make connections, engage in free-wheeling conversations, and have a great time! Plus the art we created made our actions so much more compelling and fun.
