Don't Miss
Gen Z lo-fi bedroom-pop star Clairo first earned attention for her self-produced song “Pretty Girl,” which went viral on YouTube in 2017. It’s a good song, but it’s also the perfect blend of pared-down ’80s pop and R&B ideal for YouTube’s algorithm to promote it to oblivion. She was swiftly accused of being an “industry plant” because of the connections her father—a marketing executive—had to the music world. Who knows if that’s really true, but Clairo has moved forward into collabs with the likes of pop-music titans Mura Masa and Charli XCX. Former Vampire Weekend member Rostam Batmanglij produced her debut studio album, Immunity, which is sufficiently sweet easy listening.
