The following description comes from the event organizer.
PRG is honored to present Kellie Talbot's latest body of work and is thrilled to be opening with a nearly sold-out exhibition. Talbot shares her studio time between Seattle, New Orleans & her camper van, in which she travels across the country on the hunt for old neon signs. Akin to portraits, Talbot paints neon signs in a photo-realist style that captures every detail of rust, peeling paint, glass tubing, and shadow, much like the wrinkles and blemishes found on a human subject. She honors all of these marks and patinas as evidence of human perseverance and determination—not indicative of neglect, but rather as signs of time, wisdom and experience. They are both an elegy and evidence of hope.ARTIST STATEMENT
“There's some big black clouds blowing in from the west.
I've been driving all day and I sure could use some rest.
There's a motel up ahead where I can unwind,
Cause I sure love thunderstorms and neon signs” — Wayne Hancock
"This last year I traveled over 7,000 miles searching for neon signs around the country. When planning my routes and deciding which roads to take and when, I pay attention to the skies. A cloudy day or a sunny day can make all the difference when meeting a sign. I have to keep coming back because —though I do love a thunderstorm at my campsite—it is something quite spectacular to find a sign on a sunny day with perfect shadows just waiting there." — Kellie Talbot
