Sonic Spectra of Time
The following description comes from the event organizer.
Sonic Spectra of Time, soundart performance, Friday April 12, 6-7pm rain or shine.
“What connects us to a place? How does a geographic location become an emotional connection?” These are the questions that instruct Sonic Spectra of Time. These questions emerged from my own exploration of why I do not feel connected to the place in which I currently live even though this is where I have lived the longest. Sonic Spectra of Time uses audio to explore the idea of connection and seeks to intentionally engage the mundane to develop a specific type of connection to a location. Listening to this sound manifests a hyperreality created within the mind of the listener and strives to deepen their connection to their own place once they leave the gallery.
Sonic Spectra of Time is comprised of two connected pieces. Using cassette tape as a metaphor for the tangible and ephemeral qualities of time, place, and life I record site sounds without noting where the location is or what the sound is. This is done to dislocate the sound from a specific place and time.
