In 2018, massive voter suppression in Georgia snatched the governor's mansion from Stacey Abrams and handed it over to Brian Kemp, who, as secretary of state, was overseeing the election in which he was running. (Does anyone remember when he accused Democrats of hacking the voter registration system two days before the election and provided no evidence to support that claim? I do!) Anyway, even though Abrams didn't become the first African American woman governor of a US state, she did found a GOTV group called Fair Fight Action, she did respond to Trump's 2019 State of the Union address, and she also wrote a book! It's called Minority Leader: How to Lead from the Outside and Make Real Change, and it's all about how awesome she was as the minority leader of the Georgia House of Representatives. The event is sold out, but event organizers say there will be a limited number of standby tickets at the door.
