Taste Washington, an annual four-day festival showcasing Washington wine, bills itself as "the nation's largest single-region wine and food event." This year, it's receiving a welcome update from Carrie Welch and Mike Thelin, the organizers of the wildly popular Feast Portland food festival, who will shake things up a bit by overhauling Taste's culinary component with some new events and some gastronomic heavy hitters. Thursday will see the addition of a series of four collaborative dinners between familiar local chefs and rising stars from elsewhere in the country: chef Logan Cox of Homer with Oakland-based chef Reem Assil of Reem's California, chef Ethan Stowell with San Francisco-based chef Melissa Perrello of Frances, chef Brady Williams of Canlis with LA-based chef Jon Yao of Kato, and chef Edouardo Jordan of Junebaby and Salare with Houston-based chef Chris Shepherd of UB Preserv. In addition to the main event Grand Tasting on Saturday and Sunday, there's also a new seafood-centric party called Pacific Standard on Friday, a swanky New Vintage party on Saturday night, a Sunday brunch at Renee Erickson's The Whale Wins, and a lineup of educational wine seminars for inquisitive oenophiles.
