As we wait for a final call on the election, thousands of votes for which are still being counted in key battleground states, it's tempting to spend the weekend laying on the floor, clutching your phone. We're certainly not condemning that, but we also want to point you to some other options, like looking at art or buying a candle with Kamala Harris's face on it. See our picks for general activities and in-person events below, from the reopening of the Frye Art Museum List  to places to order ramen while you watch Tampopo, and from the Columbia City Harvest Market Past Event List  to 600 Highwaymen's A Thousand Ways Part II: An Encounter Past Event List . Don't feel like leaving the house? Check out our picks for the best online events this week List , or look ahead to the best things to do all month long List .

VISUAL ART

Pay a visit to the Frye Art Museum List , which officially reopened to the public this week with social distancing measures in place. As of November 5, the First Hill fine-art institution is welcoming back mask-wearing timed ticket holders (don't worry, admission is still free) to its comfortingly echoey chambers. On view is Unsettling Femininity: Past Event List Selections from the Frye Art Museum Collection Past Event List , curated from the Frye permanent collection; Subspontaneous Past Event List , featuring work by Seattle-based artists Francesca Lohmann and Rob Rhee; Agnieszka Polska's Love Bite Past Event List , which recalls Carl Sagan's Spaceship of the Imagination; and the latest Boren Banner Series, which features a large-scale black-and-white portrait (Ronnie and Cleveland, 2006) by Seattle photographer Marilyn Montufar on the building's exterior.

Other weekend events worth noting:

FOOD & DRINK

Celebrate Biden's victory! These restaurants, bars, and cafes List have specials just for the occasion, including Trophy Cupcakes' themed treats and Trump piñatas at Little Neon Taco.

Escape by learning a new cooking skill. Stress-baking, which has rarely been more necessary than it is right now, is a popular coping strategy for good reason: Immersing yourself in a meticulously detailed recipe that requires all your senses for several hours has untold therapeutic powers. (And, of course, you have something delicious to eat at the end!) If you’re looking for an extra-involved cooking project to distract you from your doomscrolling this weekend, we suggest Coyle’s Bakeshop List owner Rachael Coyle’s free on-demand video lessons for learning how to make croissants, because butter makes everything better. All you need to do is buy the supplies and follow along at home to recreate the smell of a French bakery in your own kitchen. Or, if you prefer pasta over pastries, try Osteria La Spiga List chef Sabrina Tinsley’s on-demand videos for making your own tortelli and tagliolini at home via Sound Excursions.

Watch Tampopo and order ramen. Looking for a feel-good movie and food pairing? The charming 1985 Japanese “ramen Western” Tampopo tells the tale of two truck drivers who help a widow overhaul her struggling ramen shop. The film tells several other standalone stories, all revolving around our universal hunger for nourishment and connection. Rent it from Scarecrow Video, or stream it on the Criterion Channel or HBO Max. By the time a sage “ramen master” appears onscreen and explains the proper way to lovingly appreciate a bowl of ramen, you’re going to really, really regret it if you don’t have some in front of you, so you should definitely have a takeout option—like the kits available from Ooink List or Menya Musashi List , or something from one of our other recommended ramen restaurants—ready to go. The uplifting comedy will buoy your spirits, while the hot broth and noodles will fortify you against the current state of the world.

Enjoy fall cocktails. After all we’ve been through this week, we could all use a cozy, soul-soothing beverage. We've gathered a selection of fall-appropriate cocktails List to try, with whiskey, spices, pumpkin, cider, and other autumnal ingredients, such as Ben Paris’s PSW (Pumpkin Spiced Whiskey) and the Dane’s extra-hygge Autumn Sweater cocktail. Whether you're looking for a drink to enjoy in person at a socially distanced bar or a cocktail kit to assemble at home, you’ll find something to warm you from within.

Lounge on a covered and heated patio. As the weather gets increasingly blustery and drizzly, outdoor dining has become a chillier experience. Luckily, you can socially distance outside and still warm up with covered and heated patios. Check out our directory for tons of options for enjoying al fresco dining, regardless of what the weather has in store.

Work up an appetite for Restaurant Week. This year's spring Seattle Restaurant Week, originally scheduled to start March 29, was one of the first events to be canceled due to COVID-19. For the fall edition, though, it's  Past Event List back and bigger than ever Past Event List : To give the restaurant industry a much-needed boost, Seattle Restaurant Week is featuring more dining options and is extending the event to last an entire month, starting Sunday. Like usual, restaurants will create a variety of special meal offerings as $20 lunches and/or $35 dinners, but this time, those will take the form of make-at-home meal kits, food and cocktail takeout packages, in-house three-course meals, and more. SRW will also be partnering with Plate of Nations Past Event List this time around, an event run by the MLK Business Association to highlight southeast Seattle businesses. So far, there are nearly 150 restaurants participating, but if you're overwhelmed by the long list, don't worry: We've rounded up our suggestions List .

SHOPPING

Scavenge plant shops and a pop-up sale for some new leafy friends. Simple pleasures are hot right now, and even the least green thumbs among us have taken up plant parenting as a coping mechanism this year. Whether you've never picked up a watering can or your apartment is a den of photosynthesis, this weekend is a great time to reap the subtle life-affirming benefits of plant ownership by preordering trees and shrubs for pickup at the UW Center for Horticulture's Fall Native Plant Sale Past Event List (which is also happening next weekend). If you miss that, Fremont's Indoor Plant Shoppe is open for masked browsers, as is Plant Shop Seattle on Pine (by appointment), and, on the pricier end, Glasswing List  (also by appointment List ). If you miss the heavenly humid aisles of the Volunteer Park Conservatory, which remains closed to the public, its Virtual Chrysanthemum Week Past Event List features soothing online tours of the greenhouse.

Buy some weed to soothe your frazzled nerves. When there's nothing left to do but wait for the news of who will be our next president, you might as well take a hit (or a bite, or a sip, or a dab) of your favorite cannabinoid to get you through. If you haven't staked out your neighborhood spot yet, our pot shop directory has all the info you need on places open for pickup and in-person shopping. It's worth noting that all Uncle Ike's locations will be donating proceeds from all Walden and Sunshine Co-Op product this Friday to fund wildfire relief Past Event List in parts of Washington State. Plus, if you're so inclined, all Dockside locations are shelling out deals on hash Past Event List this month.

Shop for board games at Gamma Ray List to take your mind off Twitter and preserve the evergreen tradition of the analog game night. The Raygun arcade is still closed for now, but, as of this week, you can now stop by the Capitol Hill shop from 2:30-6:30 pm on Wednesday-Saturday to pick out cards, games, and collectibles galore.

Candles won't save our democracy or solve the climate crisis, but they'll certainly bring you a modicum of peace while you take a bath or read a book or cry (or do all three at the same time). If you're burned out, there's a bevy of fine wicks and waxes to choose from at local businesses, including the hand-poured rosemary-pine-scented candles at Porchlight and the very timely Kamala Harris prayer candles at SugarPill (which also offers lots of other cozy apothecary tinctures and chocolates and such). Have a personalized scent in mind? Elm Candle Bar offers both in-person candle-making (no reservation required) and home kits. Also, we'd be remiss not to mention the twisted candle trend on TikTok, which only requires tapered candles, warm water, and some time to kill.
