This Week in Seattle Food News: A New Bar from Renee Erickson, Mexican Korean Food, and A Kenji-Approved Bagel Destination

There's no reason to settle for mediocre meals this weekend, as Renee Erickson launches her new bar King Leroy, the restaurant Arc brings LA-style Mexican Korean cuisine to Phinney Ridge, and the Sea Wolf Bakers crew opens the new cafe and bagel shop Oxbow. Plus, Métier Brewing debuts its Central District taproom, Portland's vegan Jewish deli Ben & Esther's plans to expand to Capitol Hill, and the team behind Dreamland Bar & Diner prepares to unveil an otherworldly sci-fi-themed bar with tropical cocktails. Arc List
North Star Diner and Shanghai Room List owner Travis Clark and longtime Tom Douglas Restaurants veteran Todd Hamm aim to emulate the Mexican Korean cuisine found in Los Angeles' Koreatown with this funky restaurant and lounge, which opened in the former Park Pub List space on May 20. Mexican American chef Brandon Lancaster, who grew up in LA, serves dishes like "kimcheese" fries, drunken mojo stew, huarache con carnitas, and grilled cabbage with lemon aioli and chili crisp.

King Leroy List
Famed Seattle chef and restaurateur Renee Erickson opened this new bar in the former Kiki Ramen List space in South Lake Union this week, near Erickson's Amazon Spheres spots Deep Dive List  and Willmott's Ghost List . The establishment pays homage to classic Northwest dives with bar snacks, beef jerky, sandwiches, fried chicken wings, a full bar serving classic cocktails, a pared-down wine list, and a selection of beer and cider by the bottle and can. The spot will also donate some of its proceeds to fund culinary school scholarships at Seattle Central Community College.

Métier Brewing Company Taproom List
The celebrated Black-owned brewery Métier Brewing will host the grand opening of its long-awaited taproom in the Central District this weekend. The new brewery also features a cafe from fellow Black-owned business Umami Kushi List , known for its savory Japanese stuffed buns and other baked goods. Beer options include Métier Pale Ale, Coconut Porter, Horizon IPA, Pilsner Kolsch, and United IPA.

Oxbow List
Seattle's burgeoning bagel scene can now count another entrant among its ranks: Brothers Jesse and Kit Schumann, the owners of the acclaimed Sea Wolf Bakers List , recently opened this highly anticipated cafe spinoff next to Cafe Lago List in Montlake. Options include bagels, coffee, quiche, spreads, and "other humble offerings." Local food writer and noted bagel enthusiast J. Kenji López-Alt granted the bagels his coveted seal of approval and wrote that "it all looks super promising."

FUTURE OPENINGS

Ben & Esther's List
And more bagels are on the way: The popular Portland-based Jewish deli Ben & Esther's, which recently expanded to San Diego, announced on social media this week that it plans to open an outpost in the "heart of Capitol Hill" this summer. The exact location has not yet been revealed.

Carnelian Bay List
The patio of Fremont's splashy neon Dreamland Bar & Diner List has been transformed by its owners into a separate sci-fi-themed concept called Carnelian Bay, complete with a grotto wall, a tiger fountain with menacing light-up eyes, neon-accented booths, "tropical space-age cocktails" like toasted marshmallow daiquiris, and "oceanic bites" like honey walnut torpedo shrimp. The new bar is scheduled to officially launch on June 10.

Car crashes into Coastal Kitchen 
A driver crashed a sedan into the front of Coastal Kitchen List on Capitol Hill this Tuesday, destroying the restaurant's front entrance. No serious injuries were reported. Coastal Kitchen has temporarily closed to rebuild the entrance and has not yet announced when it will reopen.

Saint John's catches fire on Memorial Day
In other news related to doors on Capitol Hill being destroyed, a rubbish fire burned down the front of Saint John's Bar and Eatery List at 4 am on Memorial Day. The Seattle Fire Department could not determine whether the fire was intentionally set. Luckily, the business completed its repairs and was back open by Wednesday.

Guy Fieri road trips through Washington in new series
This week, the flamboyant, bleach-haired Food Network personality Guy Fieri cruises through Washington in an episode of his new series Guy's All-American Road Trip, in which he rides through the U.S. in an RV with a caravan of family and friends. In the episode, which airs tonight on the Food Network at 9 pm ET/PT, the Mayor of Flavortown ventures up the West Coast, with a stop at a gingerbread bakery and a diner in Leavenworth as well as destinations in Oregon and California.

This bake sale organized by the pop-up bakery Ben's Bread will feature delectable baked goods from vendors all over Seattle, including the London Plane, Saint Bread, Lark, Deep Sea Sugar & Salt, Muriel's, Companion Bakes x Ayako & Family, Salmonberry Goods, and more. All proceeds will benefit several organizations supporting abortion rights, including Planned Parenthood, the Louisiana Yellowhammer Fund, and National Network of Abortion Funds.
